Hidden deep within the wet tropical forests of Meghalaya, the living root bridges are unique bio-engineering structures grown from the roots of the Ficus elastica tree. Grown by the local Khasi tribe, these bridges strengthen over time.
Highlight Spot:
- Double-Decker Bridge: Located in Nongriat village, this is a spectacular two-tier bridge that requires a trek down 3,000 stone steps.
- Rainbow Falls: A short trek further from Nongriat leads to a stunning waterfall with permanent rainbow colors.
Trekking to these bridges is a physical challenge but extremely rewarding for nature lovers.
